Autumn's Shimmering Sapphire Goldstone Beaded Necklace Set

Goldstone is often mistaken as a natural gemstone, when in fact, it is a man made glass. Produced in a low-oxygen reducing atmosphere, the finished product is glass infused with glittering metal flecks which creates its' eye-catching sparkle. Goldstone is sometimes called 'stellaria' or 'sun sitara' (sitara means 'star') for its' starry internal reflections.

The most common form of goldstone is reddish-brown which is usually referred to as 'brown goldstone'. Sun kissed goldstone beads shimmer in the sunlight with golden copper sparkles that punctuate the rich reddish-brown color.

In both blue goldstone and purple goldstone, cobalt or manganese is substituted for the copper flecks, resulting in a more silvery appearance. Such as in the beaded jewelry pieces below.

In Upstate New York, this is the last weekend of the annual Rochester Lilac Festival.

This event is scheduled during May when the numerous flowering lilac bushes are typically (or hopefully!) in full bloom. It truly is a sight to see and smell!

Pantone has introduced Marsala, the color of the year 2015, as a "naturally robust and earthy wine red" that "enriches our minds, bodies and souls."

Executive Director for the Pantone Color Institute, Leatrice Eiseman, has dubbed Marsala "a unifying element" that has "full-bodied qualities for an elegant, grounded statement color when used on its own or as a strong accent to many other colors" and "a tasteful hue" like a fortified wine (hence the name).

Sterling Silver Flower Beads
Electroformed sterling silver beads are created through an intricate process that begins with a bead made of wax. The wax bead is then immersed in a solution that electrically forms pure silver over it. The next step burns out the wax, leaving a hollow, sterling silver formation. The sterling silver is then highly polished. The result is an incredibly lightweight sterling silver bead.

Imported from the Czech Republic, these beads are machine-faceted, then polished by glazing inside an oven. This gives them beautiful, glistening colors with a "softer" look. These beads are made with a solid color glass, which means the base color of the glass is saturated throughout the object and will not fade or rub off over time.
