In Upstate New York, this is the last weekend of the annual Rochester Lilac Festival.

This event is scheduled during May when the numerous flowering lilac bushes are typically (or hopefully!) in full bloom. It truly is a sight to see and smell!

August Birthstone: Mother Nature's Peridot

The Peridot, Augusts' Birthstone, forms deep inside the Earth and is brought to the surface by volcanoes, in Hawaii. It is believed to symbolize the tears of Pele, the goddess of fire and volcanoes.

Peridot, when set in gold metal (the metal of the Sun), is said to bring the wearer power, influence and a wonderful year. This gemstone is also said to protect the wearer against nightmares. But, what I found most interesting about the Peridot gemstone is that it is believed to heal the lungs. It was thought, if the gem was crushed into a fine powder and administered to a person suffering from asthma, it would cure them of their ailment.

It just so happens that May is National Asthma and Allergy Awareness Month.

Yesterday was an A-mazing day here in Rochester, New York -we hit a high of 84 degrees!! Around here, after that long winter we had, it was a very welcome day!

As a family, we used to take annual summer vacations by camping at the 1,000 Islands, Alexandria Bay in Clayton New York. I have some really fond childhood memories of these vacations and spending time with my older brother at the beach -those were special and precious times. We would spend most all our time at the beach and I loved how the sand felt between my toes! These memories are what inspired this second anklet design.

As I sit here today, the snow is coming down pretty heavy and although it's 19 degrees out, the blowing wind is making it feel like 7 degrees. It's actually quite mesmerizing to stare at the falling snow. What's going through my mind? Spring and Gardens!

Sterling Silver Flower Beads
Electroformed sterling silver beads are created through an intricate process that begins with a bead made of wax. The wax bead is then immersed in a solution that electrically forms pure silver over it. The next step burns out the wax, leaving a hollow, sterling silver formation. The sterling silver is then highly polished. The result is an incredibly lightweight sterling silver bead.

Czech Fire-polished Yellow Glass Bead
Imported from the Czech Republic, these beads are machine-faceted, then polished by glazing inside an oven. This gives them beautiful, glistening colors with a "softer" look. These beads are made with a solid color glass, which means the base color of the glass is saturated throughout the object and will not fade or rub off over time.

Romantic Rose Swarovski Crystal Beaded Earrings

The premise would be, now that the holidays are over, it's time to focus and get back to business. Right?

Well, that was the game plan for yesterday (Sunday), until....the weather was slated to be in the upper 60s. For January, that's crazy!! But, sure enough, it hit 69 degrees! I almost felt like heading out and getting some flowers to plant!

Instead, I got some walking time in. As well as, play time with my daughter; who, in case I haven't mentioned, is just giddy in love with pink.

I do believe her philosophy is: I am Pink, therefore, I am. Pink, pink, pink...everything must be pink. While I prefer a more vibrant shade of pink, she does look adorable in any shade of the color. No matter the shade of pink, you cannot argue, it is a very feminine, girly color.

When talking about the hue of pink, there are three levels:

• Brighter pinks tend to be more youthful, fun, and exciting
• Vibrant pinks tend to be sensual and passionate
• Softer pinks tend to be associated with romance and the blush of a young woman's cheeks

Ironically, my mother, daughter and myself all celebrate our birthdays in February, which is also, the month of celebrating love and romance on Valentine's Day.

With Valentine's Day fast approaching, it's no surprise to me that inquiries for Swarovski Crystal Heart Jewelry are already pouring in. I took some time to sit down in the studio and created this pair of lovely romantic cascading drop earrings (above). Although the handmade beaded earrings shown above are not hearts, the beautiful pink rose Swarovski Crystal teardrops make them the perfect accessory (or gift!) this Valentine's Day.

Sometimes love is as simple and sweet as a heart fluttering beneath blue skies and sparkling stars. Or at least that is how being in love feels -right?! I tried to capture that feeling in the design of this bead zipper pull charm.
