Cystic Fibrosis Ribbons Awareness Bracelet and CF Keychain

Having grown up around cystic fibrosis, I learned a great deal about day-to-day struggles those with cystic fibrosis face. Back then, researchers were just beginning to learn about cystic fibrosis, developing therapies and improving treatments. In fact, the cystic fibrosis gene wasn't discovered until 1989. My brother was born with cystic fibrosis in 1965 and he wasn't diagnosed with cystic fibrosis (CF) for years after birth, simply because not much was known too well known about the disease at that time. Even worse, health insurance almost never covered cystic fibrosis treatments or therapies.

But, a lot has changed, evolved and improved with cystic fibrosis since then and I attribute some of that change to awareness. The more informed and aware we are of the disease(s) that affect our lives, whether directly or indirectly, the greater the exponential benefit will be.

The month of May is designated as Sixty Five Roses, Cystic Fibrosis Awareness Month. With the color purple being nationally recognized as the Cystic Fibrosis Awareness ribbon color. Behcet's Cystic Fibrosis Transplant Awareness Bracelets (B184)

This handcrafted beaded bracelet was designed with green emerald Swarovski Crystals, white pearls and accented with sterling silver fancy Bali beads. Naturally, the second awareness bracelet to be designed was the Breathe Free Cystic Fibrosis Awareness Bracelet (B184-CF). Designed with a beautiful strand of sparkling purple amethyst Swarovski Crystals, pearls and that same sterling fancy Bali beads, finished with a sterling silver awareness ribbon charm and our signature jewelry tag. Measures 7-1/2".

Purple is the awareness support color for cystic fibrosis (CF), which is often referred to as 'sixty five roses' by young children.

The last design, Breathe Free Behcet's Disease Awareness Bracelet (B184-BD), features light blue Swarovski Crystals accented with white Swarovski Pearls, again those fancy silver Bali beads and finished with a sterling silver awareness ribbon charm and our signature jewelry tag.

A sterling silver paw charm was added to this bracelet because it is my understanding that those living with Behcet's, who have pets, are comforted by their pet on their bad days. Breathe Free Behcet's Disease Awareness Bracelet (B184-BD)

Light blue is the nationally recognized ribbon color for behcet's disease awareness and support.

You may recall Behcet's disease is an autoimmune disease that results from damage to blood vessels throughout the body, particularly veins. Most symptoms of the disease are caused by vasculitis (an inflammation of the blood vessels). Behcet's disease is not contagious; it is not spread from one person to another and it affects each person differently.

So why did I use that same fancy sterling silver Bali bead in each design? And why are they call "Breathe Free.."?

Well, with each of these diseases/illnesses the affected person is either fighting to breathe easy each day and/or battling pain, discomfort and sadness. It is my wish that each of these one of a kind bracelets will give HOPE to each of their wearers.

Cystic Fibrosis Awareness 65 Roses Necklace (N088)

The first of its' kind is finally here! For years I racked my brain for a design that would symbolize the term "65 Roses" (cystic fibrosis, is often referred to as 'sixty five roses' by young children).

This past weekend I spent just about the whole weekend in my studio. Of course, my plan was to do paperwork, but I just started creating. By the time I was done I had numerous earrings, three necklaces and four bracelets (I've already started posting them on the site with more pictures coming!). With many of the designs being new to the awareness collection.

I am very happy with how this design came out. Not only is the pendant bail a one-of-a-kind designer original the bead pattern is so unique it is set so that groups of 6 and 5 crystals run throughout the necklace -for a total of 65 crystals in the design. Absolutely beautiful!

This beaded awareness necklace was designed to raise awareness of Cystic Fibrosis ('sixty five roses') with a one-of-a-kind designer original handcrafted pendant bail to showcase the 7x10mm sterling silver rose charm with clusters of various purple crystals hand-wrapped with sterling silver wire. Adding to this necklaces' unique design is beaded pattern sets of 6 and 5 purple amethyst Swarovski Crystals to symbolize 65 Roses and carries a full 65 Swarovski Crystals in the design. Crystals are accented with Swarovski Pearls and .925 Bali. Measures 18-1/4".

The story behind why cystic fibrosis is referred to as "65 Roses" by young children:

In 1965, after learning that her three little boys had Cystic Fibrosis, Mary G. Weiss began volunteering to raise money to cure cystic fibrosis. One of her duties was to call every civic club, social and service organization seeking financial support for CF research. Mary's four year old son, Richard, listened closely to his mother as she made each call. After several calls, Richard came into the room and told his mom, "I know what you are working for."

Mary was dumbstruck because Richard did not know what she was doing, nor did he know he had Cystic Fibrosis. With some trepidation, Mary posed the question back to Richard, "What am I working for, Richard?"

"You are working for '65 Roses'," he answered so sweetly. Mary was speechless. She went over to him and tenderly pressed his tiny body to hers. He could not see the tears running down Mary's cheeks as she stammered, "Yes, Richard, I'm working for '65 Roses'."
