Cystic Fibrosis Ribbons Awareness Bracelet and CF Keychain

Having grown up around cystic fibrosis, I learned a great deal about day-to-day struggles those with cystic fibrosis face. Back then, researchers were just beginning to learn about cystic fibrosis, developing therapies and improving treatments. In fact, the cystic fibrosis gene wasn't discovered until 1989. My brother was born with cystic fibrosis in 1965 and he wasn't diagnosed with cystic fibrosis (CF) for years after birth, simply because not much was known too well known about the disease at that time. Even worse, health insurance almost never covered cystic fibrosis treatments or therapies.

But, a lot has changed, evolved and improved with cystic fibrosis since then and I attribute some of that change to awareness. The more informed and aware we are of the disease(s) that affect our lives, whether directly or indirectly, the greater the exponential benefit will be.

The month of May is designated as Sixty Five Roses, Cystic Fibrosis Awareness Month. With the color purple being nationally recognized as the Cystic Fibrosis Awareness ribbon color. Felix the Cat Inspired Prevent Cruelty to Animals Awareness Keychain (K010)

April is National Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Awareness Month and the color orange is nationally recognized as the awareness ribbon color for animal protection and feral cats.

For my regular readers, it comes as no surprise that I am an animal lover. Since childhood I've always had a pet, be it dog, cat, hamster, bird or fish. For me, life just doesn't seem complete without the comfort and love my pets give me. They love unconditionally and cannot speak for themselves and that's why, I believe, it is our duty to protect them.

When I had learned of a heartbreaking story about an orange cat named Felix who, sadly, was believed to have been abused, I wanted to do my part to raise awareness for animals. The good news for Felix was that through the care, compassion and love of the Cortland NY SPCA, Felix survived, is on the mend and has found a happy and safe fur-ever home.

But there are many other animals that still need our help.
