Summer Rainbow Watermelon Tourmaline Gemstone Anklet with Beaded Necklace

Tourmaline happens to be one of my favorite gemstones because it embodies all possible color combinations imaginable. I recently learned, ancient legend says that tourmaline can be found in all colors because it traveled along a rainbow and collected all the rainbow's colors. How cool is that?!

There are also two good reasons to own a piece of tourmaline: (1) it's a bright and beautiful gemstone and; (2) it's a high quality gemstone that is affordable.

Watermelon tourmaline is a rainbow of color featuring fuchsia, pink, lilac, emerald green, olive and ochre jewel tones that when combined create sophisticated handmade gemstone beaded jewelry that radiates pure elegance.

Feature Friday: Jade Pendant Tourmaline Necklace

Happy Friday!

Just yesterday I decided to make Fridays, "Feature Fridays" where I'll highlight a jewelry piece from the Crystal Allure Creations Jewelry collection. It made perfect sense since many pieces are created and posted on the website without ever being highlighted. And of course, like anyone, I love a good sale and so for each Friday Feature, some will also be accompanied by a great sale or discount offer. BUT, don't wait to long to grab it to add to your own collection, most pieces are one of a kind.

Today's very first feature is this gorgeous handmade gemstone necklace.

This lovely piece is only on feature for today, so hurry on over to the website to take advantage of the offer!

Watermelon tourmaline has to be our absolute favorite! Watermelon tourmaline is a rare variety that displays three different colors in the same crystal - green (the skin of the watermelon), pink (the sweet fruit) and white (the rind). As in the gem stone ametrine, the colors of the watermelon tourmaline occur 100% naturally. This is a rare occurrence in nature.

According to folklore, watermelon tourmaline brings the wearer love. It is considered a powerful healing stone for immune system disorders and life-threatening illnesses. Watermelon tourmaline removes imbalances (and guilt) caused by conflicts and confusions. The green part feeds your life force, while the pink soothes and harmonizes.

All tourmalines offer strong healing effects and the watermelon variety encourages regeneration of the nerves, helps with paralysis and multiple sclerosis.

More New Fall Jewelry

For the last few weeks I have been in a creation frenzy. With the cooler weather finally here (which some Rochestarians are not so happy about) I was finally able to get to work on some neglected jewelry designs.

All of these pieces, and then some, are now available on the website. And it’s not over yet….I still have many more designs that I planned on rolling out for the fall. So keep checking the website and blog for them.

I am a big fan, in both style and decorating, of warm, rich colors. And what better time of the year to really embrace these comforting colors than in the fall. With the exception of a few pieces, you will find a variety of necklaces and earrings incorporating a fall color scheme and (again for some pieces) a bolder design (using less chain).

One other constant theme in necklaces is the pendant style. I absolutely love teardrop pendants and in staying with this theme you will find in the coming month(s) at least 4-5 more new teardrop pendant necklaces on the website.

As with most of my designs, all the new pieces are limited edition. So please don’t wait to put your order in. It will be a rare instance if I am able to find a particular pendant again. Here we go…

When I saw this pendant, I immediately had a vision of how to use it in a necklace design. It is a stunning, rounded teardrop style pendant in a rich amethyst. I simply could not resist accenting it with a small black onyx gemstone and to finish the style I used a 14kt gold-fill textured chain to complement the pendant.

I’ve actually had these leaves for at least 8 or more months. When I saw them I just knew they would be an asset in whatever design they were used in. They have no shimmer and so I added a large genuine Swarovski Crystal in a rich burgundy and then sealed the style with a complementary smokey topaz crystal. Even though these earrings are done, this style is not finished yet…a coordinating necklace will be coming soon.

This next design is one of the few that deviates from the rich fall color scheme. But, again, I’ve had this pendant for a while now and it seemed fitting to add it to the collection this season with all the other pendant styles. I had such a difficult time finding beads to complement this ruby quartz gemstone pendant, but this past summer I had attended a bead show and purchased some watermelon tourmaline gemstone pebbles. Although tourmaline is a rainbow of beautiful colors I chose to use just the rose colored nuggets and it worked perfectly in this design.

To pair with the necklace above, I selected from the remaining tourmaline nuggets a range of color from pink to green for these stunning handmade beaded earrings. These gemstone earrings are a delicious, mouth-watering pair of watermelon tourmaline gemstone nuggets.

These are just a few of the new pieces and I hope to showcase more in the coming days. In between really diving in and tweaking my jewelry photo quality, I will be creating, creating, creating! Stay tuned…

A Bead Here, A Bead There, A Bead Everywhere!

I went to my first local bead show back in June and although I didn’t know what to expect, I certainly didn’t have any problems finding beads I liked. And it didn’t hurt that the show was held at a winery either!

For as much as I’ve read and heard from other artists about what to expect, and how to prepare for your first show, I didn’t set a budget or create a list of beads I wanted. I went with an open mind, mostly expecting to have more options for bead purchases than I can normally find locally. I was pleasantly surprised to not be overwhelmed with wall-to-wall beads. Tables were set up by type of bead, then by color and each group had a variety of shapes to choose from.

It goes without saying that I could have come up with a use for just about every bead I picked up, but after an initial scan of the beads available, I set to work finding beads that would work in a few partial creations I’ve had sitting around my studio for quite a while. Luckily, I was able to find just what I was looking for. I purchased a strand of Sardonyx and Blue Sandstone, as well as two strands of petite watermelon tourmaline nuggets.

I’ve always loved Goldstone for its added “sparkle” but when I found the Blue Sandstone I was in heaven. These beads have thousands of tiny copper particles that glitter against a dark blue background. As soon as I picked up the strand I had an idea for using them as these beads are absolutely stunning. They are subtle enough to wear everyday to work against a business suit, but easily transition to a night on the town with the most elegant of evening wear.

It’s been some time since I purchased these beads that I have been able to begin working with them (so many beads, so little time in the day!). BUT, the wait was good because just recently I visited a local bead store and found a spectacular Blue Sandstone pendant. For me, it was akin to the find of the century. I can’t wait to begin working with these beads to get them into a finished design….if the end product is anything like what I’m picturing in my head -I may not be able to part with it!

Above is a glimpse of the beads I purchased and although the picture does not do the Blue Sandstone justice -stay tuned for the finished design and you’ll know exactly what I’m talking about.

You find these lovely gemstone beads in many of my creations here at Crystal Allure!
